Logging In

The first thing you see when BioQuery starts is the Login Window.

If you've never used BioQuery before, you may want to press the 'View Tutorial' button, which will show you how to use the program in about 15 - 20 minutes. You do not need to create an account to view the tutorial.

If you have not made an account before, Press 'Create New Account'. You only need to provide a username and password to create an account. No personal information is required. Enter the exact same password in both password boxes to make sure we have it correct. Please remember to write down your username and password! When you have filled in the form, press 'Create New Account'. The account is created instantly and you are automatically logged in. See After Logging In.

If you have previously created an account, enter your username and password and Press 'Login'. See After Logging In.

You can log out at any time by clicking on the 'Account' menu at the top and selecting 'Log Out'. If you are Logged out, you can log back in or create a new account from the 'Account' menu.

If any of these operations fail, it may be because your are behind a firewall and use a Proxy Server to access the internet. See Proxy Servers.

ProxyServers

If BioQuery is unable to make a network connection, it may be because your computer is behind a firewall, and you use a Proxy Server to access the internet. To configure BioQuery to use your Proxy Server do the following:

  1. Obtain the Host name (server address) and the port number of your Proxy Server from your network administrator. You may also find these settings in your web browser (in IE this is usually found in Tools->Internet Options->'Connections' tab->LAN Settings).
  2. Start BioQuery. At the login box press 'Cancel'.
  3. Open the 'Accounts' menu and press 'Configure Proxy Server'.
  4. Enter your Host name and Port number.
  5. Press 'Save Configuration'.
BioQuery uses exclusively HTTP network calls, and only needs Proxy information for HTTP calls on port 80.

After Logging In

The first thing you should see after logging in is the 'Welcome to BioQuery' box that gives you 2 choices:

  1. 'Create a New Search'
  2. 'Open an Existing File'

If you have never saved a file before, press Create a New Search.
If you want to reopen a saved File, press Open an existing file.
